TAN AFTERCARE

What do i do after my Tan?

CHILL OUT BABE. Once your spray tanning session is complete you will want to refrain from getting wet or sweating until your first rinse. Do not touch your body with the palms of your hands while bronzer layer is still on.  Wear long loose fitted clothing to avoid skin to skin contact. Turn on the air or fan on to avoid sweating.

Your technician will advise your wash off time
Please stick to the allocated time to avoid your tan over processing or undesired results. Cold or lukewarm water is best.

Wash off your tan with lukewarm water guiding any excess solution and bronzer off the skin with your hands. This should be a 1 minute rinse only.
If you get out of the shower and notice streaks on your skin, please repeat the rinse off process as this is excess bronzer that you do not want to have over processing on your skin – Always pat dry to protect your tan, do not rub your skin. Keep all your showers under two minutes whilst you have your tan. Washing your hair is best done leaning your head under the shower, whilst keeping your body out, or using a hand held hose. This prevents hair products from fading your tan.

Do not use any soaps or body wash for the first rinse.

Your first shower is simply to rinse off the bronzer. Do not use a loofah or anything exfoliating.

It is normal if the colour looks like it is all gone after the first rinse?

Totally normal- so don't freak out. The colour in spray tans can take up to 24 hours to completely develop. If it looks like it has washed away this is normal, it is just the bronzer and excess solution. Your gorgeous glow will continue to process well beyond the “marinating” part of tanning. If you appear to have any streaks immediately this is often excess tan. If this happens have a second shower to guide the excess completely off your skin

Do not apply any products on the skin (including moisturisers / face creams) for the first 12 hours.

How to look after your tan:

Avoid Oil Based Products;
We recommend investing in some sensitive skin body wash and moisturiser. It is gentle on the skin and your tan, helping you get the most out of each application. We stock a gorgeous range of body butters and lotions specifically suited for after a spray tan.

All active skincare fades your tan- AHA products/ retinols/ vitamin C;
To keep your face glowing avoid AHA & Retinol products. These will strip the tan from your skin / face.

Avoid Getting Sunburnt
Spray tans do not protect your skin from sunburn. If you are peeling your tan will not look as flawless, protect your skin babe or your next spray tan will be patchy! We may be unable to tan over peeling skin, as flawless results cannot be guaranteed.

Avoid Soaking in water and swimming in chlorine
Unless you are trying to remove your tan, don’t soak in water. It will fade your tan. Chlorine and salt water will also fade your tan. Try to rinse in freshwater after swimming in chlorine & salt water to prolong the life of your tan.

Stay Hydrated & Moisturise twice a day
Tan loves water! The more hydrated you are and the more you moisturise, the longer your tan will last and the better it will fade. Hydration and moisturising are key to avoiding patchy or scaly skin as your tan fades.

Can i go to the Gym after a tan?

You can, but keep in mind that friction can rub off your tan. Loose workout gear is the best choice. Or enjoy a sleep-in. Your tan will thank you for it.

How to remove your tan:

It is the end of a tan and time to prepare for your next!

Soak your skin in a warm to hot bath for 10mins and then gently exfoliate the skin. Ask us in salon for products that assist with getting your tan off effectively.
You do not want to use harsh chemicals or any alcohol based removers as these are extremely drying and ageing for the skin. We stock a fabulous Bella Bronze gel tan remover that removes your tan but doesn’t strip your skin.
A bath with essential oils or scented bath bombs and an exfoliating mitt is fab.
Just be sure to completely remove excess tan before your next appointment to ensure another flawless tan your next visit…

& Yes, for the tanning devotees…
you can get a tan weekly!
